Description

Serving Effectively in Detainment and In-Custody Environments: Interpreter Preparedness and Professional Protocols This multi-faceted workshop prepares interpreters to work safely and effectively in secured correctional settings. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of officer safety protocols, facility procedures, and interpreter role boundaries, while examining how conflicts may arise between ethics and operational requirements. Learning unfolds through a unique blend of experiences: an orientation, guided jail tour, and two full days of in-person debrief, conversations, and panel discussions. By combining lived exposure with expert dialogue, this workshop equips interpreters to serve safely, ethically, and effectively where accuracy and trust are critical.
